The Bakong project, led by Design Center Philippines in collaboration with Altum as Sustainability Expert and Creative Director, aimed to introduce Bakong as a circular material driving innovation and solution-based designs. Grounded in the values of Circularity, Innovation, and Culture, the project brought together designers and manufacturers with sustainability at the core of their designs, leading to the emergence of two closed-loop systems in fashion and bioplastic. This initiative showcased Filipino creativity and determination in providing homegrown sustainable solutions to global challenges.
The Circular Design Challenge, organized in collaboration with Work In Progress, invited participants to create designs using Bakong. Three winners emerged: Brakong, providing accessible breast cancer survivor prosthesis; Modubako, reshaping learning experiences; and Malayana, providing livelihood to artisans in Cagayan inspired by the Sierra Madre mountains.
Our team collaborated closely with DCP's creative team to lead the creative treatment for the Bakong video, inviting viewers to explore the importance of circularity in a changing climate. The video showcases how Bakong can create sustainable opportunities in the country, highlighting its positive impact on industries. It aims to raise awareness about Bakong as a circular material, featuring the journey of its collaborators: farmers, makers, designers, and creatives. The video is designed to be lively, hopeful, and inspiring, emphasizing our collective accountability towards People and Planet in a circular future.
